A person’s views, attitudes and beliefs are not just influenced by his/her friends. A great factor that may affect it is his/her surroundings, most especially the place he/she grew up in. And with that, we want to show you some of the reasons or factors that made a California Girl different from others. Please take note that the list does not apply to all California Girls simply because no two people are exactly alike.

1. They have severe love for burritos

Burritos are just great especially if you’ll get it around California. That’s one of the main reason why burrito is one of their most favorite food. In other words, this may not just be for girls but for most people who grew up in the state!

2. They have great love for flip flops

Have you ever seen a girl wearing a flip flop while it’s raining? If not, then if you are planning to go to California you will definitely see a couple of them. It’s not a bad or weird thing simply because with the type of weather in that state, flip flops are really the most ideal footwear. And hey, it’s really comfortable!

3. They can be the best drivers

Let’s just say that public transport is not much of a thing in the state. It is almost impossible to roam around this state without your own wheels. Plus, this state is also known to suffer heavy traffic so most of its people are really patient while on the road.

4. They tend to use slang words

They usually say the words “hella”, “Yaddamean”, “bomb” and some more, in their sentences. It’s not because they want to be different or they want to look cooler but it just became a usual term in their state. In short, it’s a normal thing for them. No worries, they are not that hard to understand as long as you listen.

California is an undeniable wonderful state. With all its beautiful places, there is no reason for you to lock yourself in the room. They love climbing, hiking, surfing, swimming, camping and other outdoor activities you can think of.

When we say socially conscious, we mean that they are really responsible with their actions as it may affect the society. An example of this is that they usually bring their own shopping bags, they are used to segregating their waste and those types of things.

This is a very good trait of the people in California. Yes, they also have problems, they also feel disappointed, they can also have financial issues but in spite of these things, they tend to be positive and smile. How? Well, maybe it’s because they are open to things like meditation, Reiki, astrology, essential oils, crystals, and even moleosophy.

8. They love going to the beach

This state is near the Pacific so there are tons of beaches around the state. And with that access to the beach, why wouldn’t you want to go?! But since every beach can be different, they really don’t get fed up.

9. They wear Boots and Shorts, whatever is the weather

To note, this does not apply to all girls in this state but to most. Well, with the weather that they have, shorts is the most appropriate outfit. But why boots? Well, just in case the temperature goes down, they won’t feel cold easily. And besides, it looks good on them!

10. They’re Open minded

This state is very liberal. This is why you will see people from the LGBT community, goths, those who are into grass and several other groups that are freely expressing their selves. And that made California girls are very open for different views.

Surfing, swimming, biking, running, hiking, mountain climbing and whatever activity you can think of, they are in for it! Simply because their love for outdoors made them used to this type of activities. And since it can be a usual thing for them, they do not get tired that fast.

Hawaiian Foods Week is here, meaning that around the country, restaurants will be gearing up and adding a ton of aloha to some island-inspired favorites. San Diego-based breakfast favorite, Broken Yolk Café will be doing just that, by offering a wide array of breakfast and lunch items that cater to the Hawaiian palate.

Broken Yolk is teaming up with King’s Hawaiian for the weeklong celebration, utilizing the cult-favorite sweet bread in a variety of savory and decadent meals.

The headliner dish of Broken Yolk’s special menu is Tiki Toast. This island spin on French Toast is made with three extra thick slices of King’s Hawaiian sweet bread rounds, topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries, shredded coconut, caramel drizzle and powdered sugar.

Other items Broken Yolk will have available are as follows:

Coconut Crusted French Toast: Three slices of King’s Hawaiian bread rolled in shredded coconut and drizzled with a sweet milk glaze.

The Aloha Veggie Burger: A Beyond Burger patty with grilled pineapple, lettuce, tomato, onions, and mayo. Topped with King’s Hawaiian Original Sweet Pineapple BBQ Sauce. Served on a King’s Hawaiian bun with your choice of fries or rings.

Among those that frequent Laguna for its dining scene is Josh Elkin, the Undisputed Champion of Breakfast and host of the Cooking Channel’s Sugar Showdown. While he’s from Canada and currently resides in Los Angeles, Elkin has come to love Laguna Beach as a getaway spot. He’s shared five of his go-to spots with us that you can add to your culinary bucket list.

From an assortment of incredibly fresh mussels to some bourgeois toro belly, the dishes on Elkin’s lineup of Laguna Beach restaurants are sure to excite eyes and palates alike.

Elkin knows how to start his day off right, and making sure to not skip “Egg Day” is at the top of his list. At his first stop, Reunion Kitchen, Elkin checks off that requirement with this modern comfort joint’s Short Rib Benedict. It’s made with buttermilk biscuits, a chipotle hollandaise, and crispy onions that make for an ideal brunch to enjoy with friends over mimosas.

For those looking for something more off the beaten path, Elkin recommends Another Kind Cafe and its Vietnamese specialties. The ingredients are coming straight from the source, giving some serious authenticity to plates like the Clay Pot Fish, cooked in a caramelized sauce with cayenne and chives.

Being in a seaside town merits scouting out some fresh seafood. Some of the freshest you can find is at Brussels Bistro. They team up with Penn Cove Shellfish Farm to bring in a plethora of mussels, which Brussels then serves up six different ways.

Elkin’s favorite rendition of Brussels’ mussels is the Provençale style, with fresh tomatoes and basil.

Another spot Elkin recommends for some high-quality seafood is 242 Fusion Sushi. There, chef Miki Izumisawa and her all-female staff craft some fire specials, like the Volcano Sizzle seared tuna with spicy serrano peppers and garlic.

The crown jewel on Izumisawa’s menu, though, is the gold-flecked toro belly served with foie gras. It goes great with just about any sake 242 has to offer.

Finally, you can find some insane tiki drinks at Royal Hawaiian, the craziest of which is the Lapu Lapu. Available by the glass or in a massive clamshell for the squad, it’s made with a couple types of rum, passion fruit, lemon, and orange juice, and an extra rum float on top.

It’s a great way to refresh after a day at the beach, especially at happy hour, where Elkin opts for the ahi poke and coconut shrimp.

The diversity and freshness of the flavors on Elkin’s lineup is a testament to Laguna Beach’s rich food scene. If you’re looking for a foodie-centric beach getaway, Laguna’s got the coastline and the culinary craft to satisfy your desires.
